Starlink, the satellite based internet service owned by the billionaire Elon Musk has started service in Nigeria.

A tweet from the starlink page indicated that Nigeria is the first African country to enjoy the service.

Starlink is offering a 30 day free trial with reduced prices to co-opt new customers.

The notification said while the hardware would be available for N274,098, the subscription would be at a price of N19,260.

Notably, the estimated download speeds are in the region of an amazing 240 mbps compared to 14 mbps commonly available via fibre optic service in the country.

Elon Musk and Starlink are seeing Nigeria as a critical market.

This development means there is going to be heightened competition in that sector which has been typified with customer complaints over service reliability issues.
