Liverpool made good their intent to strengthen their midfield with the confirmation of the signing of Japanese international, Wataru Endo for £16m.

Endo, 30, signs on a four-year contract from Bundesliga side, Stuttgart.

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp expressed his happiness at the new signing, and confirmed that Endo had been on his radar for years.  He said Endo is a very good player who now needs to show what he can do in the premier league.

Addressing concerns about his age, Klopp dismissed them saying Endo was a late bloomer who had improved every year since he stepped on the big football scene.

On his part, Endo expressed his happiness at joining Liverpool while revealing that it was his dream to play in the premier league.

He expressed his readiness to get right in the middle of the park, defensively for Liverpool as he has always done for Stuttgart and Japan. In his words “I can’t wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.

Endo played 133 times for Stuttgart since joining them from Belgian side, Sint-Truidense.  He also has 50 caps for the Japanese National team.

This new signing is meant to be cover for Liverpool in the midfield after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Arabian League. Although the reds brought in World Cup Winner, Alexis McAlister from Brighton, there is a feeling that more cover is needed in the Liverpool midfield.

Earlier in the week, Liverpool suffered some disappointment and setbacks in their bids to land Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia from Brighton and Southampton. Both players opted to join premier league rivals, Chelsea.

Liverpool bided a record  £111million, but the player opted to join Chelsea for £115m.

Chelsea paid £58m for Romeo Lavia after Liverpool thought they ad secured his services for £50m.
