As tensions rise over the inability of Nigerians to access the new naira notes, 13 political parties in Nigeria have threatened to withdraw from the 2023 general elections , if the Central Bank of Nigeria extends the deadline of February 10, for the new Naira swap.

A coalition of the chairmen of the affected parties issued this threat on Monday, February 6.

Speaking at the press conference, the National Chairman of the Action Alliance, Kenneth Udeze, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the redesign of the N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes, but insisted that the policy must stand.

Udeze said the 13 political parties will withdraw their participation in the electoral process if the new currency policy is suspended, cancelled or the deadline shifted.

The new currency policy is believed to be targeted at politicians who use vote buying as a strategy to win elections.
