Arsenal started the season with a win over Manchester City in the Community Shield to open the new English Premiership League football season.

Goals from  Cole Palmer of Manchester City and a late equalizer by Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard, ensured the hard fought game would go into penalties, after ending at 1-1 during regulation time.

Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri missed for Manchester City while Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Fabio Viera scored their penalties for Arsenal to ensure a victory for the London team.

If this game is anything to extrapolate on, then maybe that last season dominating treble winning performance by Pep Guardiola and Manchester City might be difficult to replicate this season.

The goal from Cole Palmer had seem to be all Manchester City needed to start a new run in the season with the Community Shield. The equalizer by Leandro Trossard in the 103rd minute changed all that and forced the game into penalties. This was uncharacteristic of Manchester City to let in late goals but the goal by Trossard came off a deflection and there was little the goalkeeper Ortega could do.

Arsenal have started off on a positive slate with the first silverware of the season for Mikel Arteta and his boys.  Congratulations to Arsenal, the 2023 Community Shield Champions.
