Emefiele Moves Out of CBN Governors Quarters in Ikoyi, Lagos

Emefiele-2

Godwin Emefiele, the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reportedly moved his things out of the official quarters of the bank in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The Nation Newspapers is reporting that Emefiele was accompanied by Jim Obazee, the Specia; Investigator of the CBN and members of his team to the premises located in Glover Road, Ikoyi Lagos.

It is unclear why such a high-powered delegation would accompany Emefiele just to retrieve his personal effects.

Recall that Emefiele was removed from office by President Bola Tinubu who ordered an investigation into his activities as CBN Governor.

Since his removal, Emefiele has faced prosecution in court on charges relating to criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to conduct forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony. He was first detained for several weeks before being charged to court.

Emefiele was influential in the regime of former President Muhammadu Buhari who encouraged the CBN to go beyond its mandate and be more active in supporting different sectors of the economy.

However, Emefiele is accused of abusing the ways and means instruments of the bank to print over N30tn which was spent by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
