Despite the protests and obvious failings of the recently concluded elections in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari in his message to fellow Muslim faithful to mark the end of the Ramadan fast on Thursday, April 20, described the 2023 General elections as one of the proudest achievements of his administration, since he assumed office in 2015.

President Buhari urged Muslims to exhibit tolerance as it’s one of the lessons learned from the Ramadan fast.

The President expressed his joy on how peaceful the elections were and his wish to deliver a free and fair elections was actualized.

He emphasized on the level of transparency experienced in the elections, that some members of his party who the people didn’t want, weren’t voted for as he remained neutral and never interfered with the election process.

Buhari further congratulated Muslims on successfully completing this spiritual obligation and prayed for their sacrifices during the fasting season to be rewarded. He admonished Muslims to always remember the underprivileged ones and the poor.

Recall that the recently concluded elections were characterized by violence, ethnic targeting and outright fraud. Also, this election really exposed the inadequacies and dodgy behavior of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In Adamawa State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner tried to steal an election right on National TV. The elections in other states were no better, with protests trailing the compilation and election results. The credibility of INEC is not the most sterling at this time.
