The candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Bola Tinubu, was declared winner in the hotly disputed election by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

INEC said Tinubu got 8.79million votes ahead of the the 6.98million votes of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and 6.1million votes of Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Despite the glaring corruption of the process and undeniable violence and disenfranchisement of thousands of voters, INEC led by Mahmood Yakubu, refused to revisit the infractions which could have led to a different outcome.

It all seems too much like a playbook, with the ruling APC asking the opposition parties to go to court with the dispute.

The opposition parties, PDP and LP have already rejected the results in a joint statement. They said with mounting evidence, that the results had been heavily manipulated and do not reflect the wishes of Nigerians at the polls.

The question now is, what is the way forward for Nigeria?

The disputes are too deep and there are fears of violence erupting in the already divided country.

Tinubu, who said he is 70, but looks far older than the stated age, appears frail and in poor health. There are serious doubts on how effective he can be as a leader, especially one with a mandate that is seriously challenged by the opposition parties.
