Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant in the coming Kogi State governorship primary election, has alleged that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is attacking him because of his refusal to support his “misplaced” presidential ambition.

Melaye was reacting to comments by Governor Wike in a media chat in Port Harcourt, that he (Melaye) is not fit to be the Governor of Kogi.  Melaye, who is a core member of the Atiku Abubakar PDP Presidential Campaign Council, accused Wike of mismanaging Rivers State resources, saying his prison uniform is being sewn and his inmate number is ready.

According to Melaye;

“Wike pain and anger is, he wanted my support during his misplaced aspiration to become the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2023 Presidential election, I knew that his credential is unworthy of the ticket so I had to pour in all my support for Atiku Abubakar, a deserving and cultured statesman who ignored Wike’s tantrums throughout the period of the election.

“Wike should be more concerned about how he’s going to survive after his 2nd tenure as Rivers governor, because his reckless manner in mismanaging Rivers state resources, his prison uniform should have been sewn and his inmate number waiting for his allocation.

“My main goal is to continue to savouring my freedom, I will be sending relief materials to Wike from Government House Lokoja, by the grace of God.”

Melaye claims that Wike sees nothing good in the leadership of the PDP, “yet he can not defect to another Party, because no Party will accept him as he has a quetionable character.

“As the good people of Kogi State prepare for the Gubernatorial election, the choice of choosing their desired candidate is theirs to make. All the evil machinations and self-destructive conduct of Wike will fail. I have never asked for any form of support from Wike. My aspiration is on course.”

He also said, “Wike should have at the back of his mind that Kogi is not Rivers state, and the people of Kogi State would not choose or worship any foreign God. Wike should know that power belongs to God, and He gives it to whoever he wants, even the lowest of men. But for this absolute and indiscriminate dispensation by God, how did a person like Nyesom Wike become a governor? Is it his oratory, diligence, finesse, wealth or intellectual endowment?

“Today, Wike can take a swipe at me, and rate me down as unqualified to govern my state, but has he forgotten so soon that he believed and supported my Gubernatorial aspiration in 2019? Can he be reminded that I have served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives and have also been elected twice into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?”

Recall that Nyesom Wike contested for the PDP presidential primaries and lost to Atiku Abubakar who then subsequently, overlooked Wike for the vice-presidential ticket. Wike in turn formed the G5 Group of Governors of the PDP to oppose the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar. Wike eventually supported the ambition of Bola Tinubu of the rival All Progressives Congress (APC).
