Abiye Sekibo, the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State, was reportedly attacked on Thursday night and his vehicle hit with bullets in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Punch is reporting that alleged gunmen dressed in police uniform shot at the vehicle at Rainbow Town in the Trans Amadi area of Port Harcourt, when Sekibo went to inspect the proposed venue of the presidential rally of the party. The vehicle is said to be a bulletproof Toyota Landcruiser SUV.

Sekibo, who is a former minister of transportation, confirmed that the venue was set on fire and his vehicle shot at. He also confirmed that he got a good look at the Hilux vehicles used which he affirmed were police Hilux vehicles attached to the Governor of Rivers State.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has been at loggerheads with the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign over a variety of issues, including venues to be used for the presidential rally in Rivers State. The State Government had initially approved the use of the Adokiye Amiesamaka stadium in Port Harcourt for the rally, but subsequently withdrew the approval before reinstating the approval. The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council then said it was no longer interested in using the stadium anymore.

There has been no reaction by both the police or the Rivers State Government as at time of publication.
