Implores Buhari To Prevent CBN Governor From Leaving Nigeria
Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle has opposed the study leave, President Buhari granted to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
According to speculations, Buhari had approved the request by the CBN governor to embark on a study leave outside Nigeria.
Reacting to the news, Matawalle insisted that Emefiele is not supposed to go on any leave due to his “disastrous” monetary policy which subjected Nigerians to untold hardship earlier this year.
Matawalle acknowledged the fact that President Buhari and his wife Aisha Buhari have tried in showing good conduct and are determined on carrying out a seamless, orderly, and peaceful transfer of power to the incoming administration.
But as they are eager to make sure the new administration kicks off smoothly without anything that will endanger the interest of our country, they should do the right thing.
The Zamfara state Governor further urged Buhari to recall the leave in order to promote a peaceful transition of power, he added that the President should reject further attempts by any person, seeking to damage the good job he has done.
Matawalle opined that Emefiele must stay back in Nigeria, to give an account of his tenure to the new administration that will take off on May 29.
The Governor stated that Emefiele has about 10 months left of his tenure and the purported leave may be a bid to avoid rendering accounts of his office as CBN Governor.
Matawalle revealed that he is aware of the plans by some officers in the outgoing government to leave the country at this critical time they are expected to answer specific questions concerning their various offices. According to him, the officers who are planning to leave the country at this point have something to hide and must be prevented from evading immediately.
In his words “Any motive to dodge rendering of public accounts is neither in the interest of accountability, transparency and anti-corruption”.
He urged President Buhari not to give in to their plans because they are dangerous and devilish.
Recall that some state governors had taken the CBN and the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the new naira policy. The Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the Governors and pushed the implementation date of the policy forward to December, 2023.
