There was drama this morning at the Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja as the Lamidi Appa faction of the Labour Party attempted to take the seats meant for litigants which was already occupied by members of the Peter Obi team led by Akin Osuntokun.

The confrontation led to a shouting match inside the court over between the two factions.

Lamidi Apapa himself led his team and was seen in a video circulating on social media screaming “who are you” at the other faction in a bid to take over their seats.

It seemed the shouting did not alter any arrangement as Akin Osuntokun and his team stood their ground and refused to leave their seats which they have been occupying since the start of the proceedings at the election tribunal. Apapa was later seen ushered out of the court room by policeman after being hounded by scores of Labour Party supporters present at the tribunal.

The Apapa Controversy

The emergence of Lamidi Apapa faction is seen as very controversial and their behavior is looked on with suspicion as they seem to be at cross variance with that of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Recall that Lamidi Apapa had written to the tribunal claiming to be the authentic Chairman of the party and seeking to withdraw petitions of all Labour Party candidates, including Peter Obi at the various tribunals around the country.

Earlier, Lamidi Apapa had kickstarted the crisis in the Labour Party by going to court to seek the suspension and removal of the incumbent Labour Party Chairman, Julius Abure and 3 other party executives. This action had been replied with counter court actions by Julius Abure and the other party executives seeking to nullify the court orders.
