The much touted revival of Chelsea under Graham Potter came to a crushing end today, with a 0-2 loss at Stamford Bridge to Aston Villa.

Goals from Ollie Watkins in the first half and another by John McGinn was all it took to end Chelsea’s hopes of another revival in the English Premier League.

It was a tactical gamble by Graham Potter to start Marc Cucurella and Coulibaly in defence while the likes of Benoit Badiashile sat on the bench.

The gamble did not pay off as Cucurella was responsible for the wrong header which placed Ollie Watkins right in front of the Chelsea goal and he just raised the ball up to score.

There were some positive signs like the introduction of midfield maestro, Ngolo Kante, but that was not enough to save Chelsea. Kante missed a clear goal opportunity which he shot wide after finding the ball from Noni Madueke.

Ben Chillwell actually scored but was ruled off by the referee.

Mykhailo Mudryk was also guilty of missing a sitter which he fired weakly into the hands of the Aston Villa goalkeeper.

It is just not working out at Chelsea despite the multitude of talents available to the club.

With this loss, Chelsea fall to the bottom half of the table. For a club with lofty ambitions, this is just not good enough.
