Chelsea are on a roll after they completed the signing of Brighton midfielder, Moises Caicedo for a new British record fee of £115m.

Chelsea beat Liverpool to the signature of the 21year old Ecuadorian after Liverpool had attempted to hijack the deal by placing a bid for  £110m.

That bid which was significantly higher than the last  £100m Chelsea bid was rebuffed by the player who insisted that he wanted to go to Chelsea.

Brighton who will probably be having the last laugh in this deal, had insisted on their  £100m valuation for the young midfielder who set the premier league alight with scintillating performances last season.

The situation got murkier after Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp had gone ahead, last week on the eve of the Chelsea – Liverpool game, to announce the signing of the player.

The player had other ideas and rejected the Liverpool move in favor of the move to the London side.

After the deal was signed, Caicedo had expressed his delight on joining Chelsea.

He is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:

“I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club”

“It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team”

In a related development, Chelsea have agreed a £50m move for Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia. The interesting saga of this development is that Lavia has been on the radar of Liverpool who are eager to bolster up their midfield after the departures of Brazilian Fabinho and ex-captain Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Arabian League.

The reds had brought in Alexis McAlister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai to bolster the midfield. However, they still believed they needed more midfield players in the team.

Liverpool had previously agreed a £60m deal with Southampton but as with the Caicedo deal, the player preferred to go to Chelsea.

The 19 year old Belgian midfielder will now make a move back to the elite premier league, after Southampton were relegated to the championship last season.

The two moves snatched from the hands of Liverpool would certainly hurt the reds. Chelsea have been big winners in the transfer department, can they make it count in the race for the Premier League Title?

They have made their title intentions clear with an excellent performance in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. If that performance is the benchmark, then the new signings are expected to add a new dimension to this Chelsea team. Imagine a midfield parading the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka and Romeo Lavia. That looks like a team with winning intentions.
