Reports reaching Opiopio.ng indicates that Dino Melaye has won the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial Primaries in Kogi State.

The Kogi State Governorship Election is scheduled for November 11, 2023.

Melaye reportedly polled 313 votes to defeat Jabiru Usman who got 123 votes, Yomi Awoniyi who got 77 votes and Musa Wada with 56 votes.

He is a former Senator who represented Kogi West Senatorial District at the Senate in 2015.

So barring any legal challenges, the stage is now set for the battle for the Kogi State Government House. The strongest challenge is expected to come from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which picked Usman Ododo as its candidate for the election.

Controversial and Dramatic Past

Dino is a controversial character who is famed for his confrontational attitude in the Senate, and his penchant for skits and drama.

He was a constant fixture on the PDP Presidential Council for Atiku Abubakar in the recently concluded Presidential Elections.

Recall that last week, Dino was in the news for his feud with Nyesom Wike, the current Governor of Rivers State.

Wike had addressed newsmen and said Dino had no capacity to become Governor. Dino had fired back at Wike, and revealed that Wike begged him to help him bag the vice-presidential ticket of the PDP in the February 25th elections.
