Atiku Abubakar was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 presidential elections while Aminu Tambuwal was the Director General of the PDP presidential campaign.

Recall that Wike was an active participant in the PDP presidential primaries in which he lost to Atiku Abubakar.

Wike was also overlooked for the the vice presidential ticket of the PDP for the election.

Since losing the ticket, Wike vowed to work against the party in the presidential elections.

In the interview, Wike blamed the two men for the loss suffered by the party in the 2023 presidential elections.

He said the loss of the PDP was purely because of the refusal of the presidential candidate and some of its members to honour the priciple of justice and fairness.

He accussed them of openly displaying greed and impunity which contributed the the present position of the party.

Wike had gone ahead to support and deliver the votes of Rivers State, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Tinubu in the presidential elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) called the election for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu , who has since been sworn in as president.

Tinubu, as a show of gratitude to the role played by Wike in his election, appointed Wike to become the minister of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, despite his membership of the opposition party, PDP.
