Juventus midfielder and former Manchester United star, Paul Pogba has been banned from football for 4 years for doping offenses.

Pogba who failed a drugs test in August 2023, after he was named on the bench for the Juventus against Udinese tie in the Italian Serie A.

He tested positive for Testosterone and was given the long ban by the anti-doping office in Italy.

Pogba who had lawyers representing him in the case had earlier rejected a plea deal which would have seen him bag a smaller punishment for the offence. The lawyers claimed Pogba had accidentally taken a substance which caused the positive test for Testosterone.

The legal team representing the former France World Cup winning midfielder say they will appeal the punishment in a last bid to save the career of Pogba.

The announcement of this long time off the football field effectively ends the career of one of the most flamboyant players in European Football.

Pogba, 31, would be 35 by the time the punishment is over and would be too old to participate in any serious football competition.

This is a very sad development for the one time most expensive footballer in the world. Pogba earned this tag when he moved from Juventus to Manchester United for a then record fee of £89m in 2016.

Since his move back to Juventus, Pogba has been saddled with multiple injuries and had barely played successive games for the club where he rose to fame.

He also had issues with his family members with one of his brothers arrested in an alleged plot to extort money from the French star.
