The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, has ordered the arrest of Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti for assaulting a policeman in a video which has gone viral.
In the video, Seun can be clearly seen slapping and shoving the officer in uniform with repeated chants of “You dey Craze” which is a slang in pidgin for “Are you crazy”?
The Nigeria Police Spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi released a statement on Saturday night disclosing the order for the arrest of Seun Kuti.
Part of the statement read:
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book,”
The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, but it appears to be related to a traffic incident on a clear section of the Third Mainland Bridge. However, what is clear is that Seun Kuti physically assaulted a uniformed officer and will be arrested and prosecuted for assault.
Recall that Seun Kuti had been in the news recently after he made statements attacking the ambition of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his followers in the Obidient movement. He also spoke against the declaration of Bola Tinubu as president elect.
