Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, says the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set up a committee to meet with presidential candidates of other political parties to ease tension and for reconciliation.

Akeredolu spoke during the presentation of the certificate of return to Tinubu and Kashim Shetima, vice president-elect on Wednesday, March 1, in Abuja.

In a statement signed by Richard Olatunde, his chief press secretary, Akeredolu said the election reflects the wishes of the electorate, and was free from any form of malpractice. The committee is made up of elders from the ruling APC and the aim is for every aggrieved person to reconcile and accept the outcome of the elections in good fate.

Akeredolu is quoted;
“The president-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together.”

“This is an election that was not padded. People who voted were counted, that is the way I see it, not one which shows millions of votes. You can see the candidates, everyone won 12 states each, it has never been like that before.”

The governor further said the votes recorded by APC candidates in Ondo state shows how much love the people has for his administration, adding that the people “willingly” supported his wish for a southern president.

However, the opposition parties are crying foul and hotly disputing the election results. They have cited violence, ethnic targeting, voter suppression and outright fraud in the election.
