The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to prosecute socialite, Okechukwu Pascal, popularly known as “Cubana Chief Priest” on a three-count charge of abuse of the Naira.

The arraignment will be done on the basis of the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The EFCC filed the charges on April 4 and it details how Pascal was allegedly dancing and spaying Naira in denominations of N500 at Eko Hotel, Lagos on February 13, 2024.

Pascal, who is known to be very visible at social events was alleged to have sprayed Naira notes for over 2 hours at the Eko Hotel event.

The details of the charges indicate that the EFCC had long been on the trail of Pascal since 2020.

Count 2 of the charge alleges that in 2020, Pascal committed the offence of Naira spraying in Lagos at an event for two hours.

Count 3 of the charge alleges that in January 2024, Pascal committed same offence by spraying Naira notes at another event in Lagos, which is contrary to the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The new forceful stance of the EFCC against the abuse of the Naira became noticeable with the recent arrest and conviction of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as “Bobrisky”, for similar charges of Naira abuse

Okuneye was sentenced to 6 months in jail with no option of fine.
