Ex-Super Eagles player and currently Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George will be in charge of the team for the upcoming international friendlies against Ghana and Mali.

Finidi who is currently the Manager of Nigerian Professional Football League side, Enyimba FC of Aba has been given the nod to take charge of the team following the resignation of former Manager, Jose Peseiro.

Finidi led the Aba side to the NPFL title in the last season in his first stint as a full time coach in the NPFL

Jose Peseiro, a Portuguese national, was in charge of the Super Eagles team that narrowly lost to hosts, Cote D’Ivoire in the African Nations Cup Competition in January 2023.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had announced the vacancy for the head coach of the Super Eagles while stating they had no preference for any candidate.

The elevation of Finidi George as the interim Head Coach of the Super Eagles, would certainly give the Bayelsa State born gaffer the opportunity to prove his mettle, and make a strong claim for the job on a permanent basis.

Finidi made his debut for the Super Eagles in an African Nations Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in July, 1991.
He had a very successful career in Nigeria and Europe winning the European Champions League with Ajax of Amsterdam in 1995. He played alongside many famous players in that team including Nigeria Striker, Nwankwo Kanu and several Dutch superstars including Frank Rijkaard, Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert.
