Asks For Patience For Palliatives To Sink In

One of the spokesmen of President Bola Tinubu has pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with the government of Bola Tinubu and to stop “intemperate attacks against the new government”.

Onanuga made this plea on his verified Twitter page and advised that the country cannot go back to the hyper fraudulent subsidy regime of the past.

Recall that Bayo Onanuga played an infamous role in the ethnic targeting of opposition supporters, during the presidential and gubernatorial elections in February and March 2023.

Nigeria has been thrown into economic turmoil with the stoppage of the “fuel subsidy” by the Federal Government. This development has seen the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly know as Petrol, rise form N180 to now N612 per litre. The prices are even higher in areas far away from the big cities.

The effect has been a sustained rise in inflation of goods and services and a massive reduction in economic activities in the country. This has led to millions of new persons falling under the poverty line in Africa’s largest economy, with unemployment rates above 40%.

The pronouncement of the removal of the subsidy was done by President Bola Tinubu on the day of his inauguration without any laid out plans for palliatives to cushion the economic effects on the nation of 200m persons

Here is the post from Onanuga

In this season of high fuel price, I want to plead with our people to exercise some patience. We are all jointly experiencing the pain. All those intemperate attacks against the new government of President Bola Tinubu should stop. Let’s await the palliatives as his government has promised. Let’s await the palliatives that will flow from each state as more money is channeled to them from the subsidy savings.

We cannot go back to the hyper fraudulent subsidy regime where we were spending more money on petrol than on roads, education and health. My people, patience, patience please. I beg you all.

No country has ever made progress without the people going through some pains. Our country under Tinubu’s watch shall certainly excel.
