Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has yet again relayed his thoughts about the Naira redesign by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Wike pointed out that the redesign policy is politically motivated and the citizens were not considered in its implementation.

Wike made this known while receiving a letter of nomination on the award of ‘Independent Man of the Year 2022’ by the Independent Newspapers in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Tuesday, February 14.

Wike said that the unplanned implementation of the Naira swap by the CBN, has increased the suffering and worsened the living conditions of the poor masses in Nigeria.

He said while there is nothing wrong with redesigning the naira, the implementation wass faulty as it only aggravated the conditions of the poor people. Wike called the implementation political and wondered why both the old and new notes are not made available to people.

The Governor also took aim at the calls for embracing internet banking by noting that the vast majority of people in the rural areas do not have bank accounts.
