Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, seemed to have more than project commissioning on his agenda on his recent visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Tinubu apparently brought two arch political enemies, Nyesom Wike and Magnus Abe together with the two gladiators smiling and shaking hands in front of TV cameras.

This apparent reconcilation took place at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa when Tinubu was about to board his private jet out of the city after a 2 day visit.

How did this happen and what are the ramifications going forward?

First, political watchers were thrown guessing what was going on when Magnus Abe, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) withdrew his election petition against the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sim Fubara who was declared elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This withdrawal was done despite the glaring evidence and violence exhibited in the elections in Rivers State.

Abe said he withdrew the case because he did not want to be in conflict with Tinubu who is of the All Progressives Congress(APC), and who apparently had struck a deal with Nyesom Wike, who is a member of the PDP.

It all sounds confusing but there is a method to this confusion. Magnus Abe is a known supporter of Bola Tinubu and he has made this clear on many occassions. Bola Tinubu entired into an alliance with Nyesom Wike to deliver Rivers State votes to the APC in the presidential election to the detriment of the presidential candidate of Wike’s party, Atiku Abubakar.
