Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen scored a second half equalizer that earned Napoli its first Serie A title since the Diego Maradona era in the 1986/86 and 1989/90 season.

Osimhen scored in the 1-1 draw with Udinese on Thursday night at the Stadion Diego Armando Maradona to ensure the Serie A title comes to the city of Naples. The score line meant Napoli win the title with five games to spare.

Napoli went behind in the 13th minute of the first half with a goal from Sandi Lovric of Udinese before Osimhen hit the equalizer on resumption of the second half.

This was goal number 22 in the league for Osimhen in a season he has shone like a million stars.

Napoli’s win has broken the cycle in Serie A where the title has traditionally circulated amongst the Milan clubs and Juventus over the years.

Napoli have been untouchable this year in Serie A and they built up an amazing 16 point lead with five games remaining.

Champions league football is assured for the team but now the big hawks from Europe will be hovering around to move Osimhen away from Napoli. There have been speculations that Napoli have placed a record $150m price on the striker. However, Osimhen had declared his intentions to remain at Napoli and achieve great things there. Will Napoli be able to hold on to their prized striker in the summer? Only time can tell.
