Premier League side, Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Nigeria and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen.

The Sun is reporting that Liverpool sent scouts over to Portugal to watch the striker during the international break, where Nigeria played Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

Nigeria played a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia with Osimhen only featuring for 60 minutes before getting off with a hamstring injury. He missed the game against Mozambique which Nigeria won 3-2.

Osimhen has been the subject of transfer speculations in the past couple of months following his crazily impressive season at Napoli.

The Nigeria striker led the Naples team to the first Serie A title in 30 years following the Diego Maradona spell at the club.

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, has now turned his attention to the Nigerian striker after much public interest in the 24-year-old by some of the top clubs in Europe including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Napoli reportedly rebuffed offers for Osimhen in the summer and have reportedly slammed a record $150milion price tag.

Osimhen was also in the news for the amazingly crazy offer from the Saudi Arabia league for $1million dollars per week wages.

The player who had always maintained his loyalty to the Napoles club might soon be having a rethink of his strategy following the bust-up he had with Napoli Tik Tok account which described him as a “Coconut”.

The bizarre incident occurred after Osimhen missed a penalty in a league game and the official Napoli Tik Tok social media account criticized their star player and derided him as a “Coconut” in two controversial videos that went viral.

Osimhen got upset with the videos which appeared racially tinged, and asked for an apology from the Naples team.

That official apology was never given but the club described the incident as unfortunate and non-intentional, and promptly terminated the operator of the social media handle, Alessio Fortino.

Osimhen later called for unity at the club, while restating that he would forever be grateful to the fans of the club.

That particular episode has brought the potential Osimhen transfer back on the lips of agents across the top clubs in Europe.

A move to the Premier League would certainly make headlines and would be one of the most, if not record-breaking transfers in modern times.

Osimhen scored 31 goals in all competitions on route to claiming the scudetto for Napoli last season.

With such stats, a move to the Premier League would not be cheap and Napoli would certainly not easily let go of their star man whose contract with the team elapses in 2025.
